Agricultural R&D—Investing in Africa’s Future:
Analyzing Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)’s ASTI and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) convened a conference on agricultural R&D in Africa focused on the following themes:
- Levels and stability of African agricultural R&D investments
- Human resource development in African agricultural R&D
- Aligning and rationalizing institutional agricultural R&D structures
- Measuring and improving the effectiveness of African R&D systems
New Report—African Agricultural R&D in the New Millennium Progress for Some, Challenges for Many
ASTI is pleased to announce the release of the new IFPRI Food Policy Report on Africa Agricultural R&D in the New Millennium: Progress for Some, Challenges for Many which assesses recent trends in investment and human resource capacity in Sub-Saharan Africa’s public agricultural R&D. The report analyzes information from comprehensive datasets derived from primary surveys conducted by ASTI during 2009 and 2010 in 32 African countries.
